Frequently Asked Questions

This section will hopefully provide you with some answers to question we are commonly asked. If you have a question that is not answered satisfactorily here, please contact our office at (603) 752-1020 and speak with one of our employees.

Q. I have a question about my bill.

A. All of our bills are handled by a billing service called Interclaim. Their personnel are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Please contact them to answer any and all billing questions.

Q. I have Medicare/Medicaid/other private insurance and feel that I am being billed incorrectly.

A. Again, you would need to speak to Interclaim, our billing agency.

Q. I am a senior citizen and cannot drive. Can BEMS Inc. transport me to (a local establishment that is not a medical facility).

A. Unfortunately not. We are here to provide transportation for those in medical need and not a taxi service. The Berlin area is set up with many businesses which provide transportation to the public such as North Country Transportation and Easy Taxi. Check the local phonebook for their contact information and the yellow pages for more establishments who can help you.

Q. Are your ambulances wheelchair accessible?

A. No, they are not.

Q. Are you hiring?

A. We are always ready to hear from EMTs of any level who are interested in working for us.

Q. Are you affiliated with Androscoggin Valley Hospital?

A. No, BEMS inc. is independent and in no way directly affiliated with Androscoggin Valley Hospital.

Q. I need to get in touch with your management. When is the best time to do that?

A. As an on call emergency service, our staff in general is in and out of the office erratically at all hours. However, the best time to come into contact with our a management directly would be weekday mornings after 9am.

Q. My relative/close friend needs to be transported by your company to a medical facility. Can I ride along in the ambulance?

A. Unfortunately, no. It is our job to give our patient the best of care and our undivided attention. Without even realizing it, a friend or relative along on the ride would be an unnecessary distraction which could adversely affect patient care. Therefore, it is our company's policy not to allow friends or relatives of patients to accompany them inside the ambulance. If you would like to meet your relative or friend at the medical facility, you would need to make alternative travel arrangements.
